Winner of the Phoenix 200 Indy race now loves Drifting and will be competing in the Formula Drift series.

DRIVING RESUME for Jim Guthrie: 1973 began racing motocross with a Yamaha 80 1975-1980 competed in Observed trials in the NM Trials Association riding a Montesa Cota 348 1981 switched over to road racing a Kawasaki GPZ-550 1982 while motorcycle road racing, entered the SCCA Autocross series and won the B Street Prepared class with a 1966 GT Mustang Fastback 1983 bought and raced a Formula Ford in SCCA Regional road racing and the BFG racing series in Colorado. 1984 moved up to SCCA National racing in a Swift DB-1 Formula Ford. 1986 made the move to SCCA Pro racing and competed in my first 2 Mazda Pro series races.

As my business was growing I sold all race cars for the capital needed. 1987-1988 raced jet skis and a few boat drag races.(something I could afford at the time) 1989 -1990 raced in the International Karting Federation Speedway series, winning many races. 1991 built and raced a Limited Late Model Dirt car and earned the Rookie of the year award and two wins. 1992-1993 decided to go back to the asphalt in the SCCA F-2000 series with a Swift DB-6 earned the track record at PIR. 1994 ran the Hooters F-2000 Oval Series, finishing 3rd in the points series. 1995 was a very busy year as I ran the Toyota Atlantic Pro Series with a Ralt RT-41, the USAC Oval series driving a F-2000 for McGrath Motorsports and ran 3 Trans-am races in a Jack Roush car, winning 2 races. 1996 tested and was hired by Blueprint Racing to compete in the Indy Racing League, (IRL) driving a Lola with a turbo Buick engine.

1997 first full season in the IRL driving a Dallara, leading 4 of 7 races and winning the Phoenix 200 in 1997. Won the Rookie of the year at the last race against Billy Boat. Qualified outside second row at the 1997 Indy 500. 1998 was hired by ISM in Indianapolis to drive a G-Force in the IRL. After a lack of funds, I drove for Riley and Scott at their last race in Las Vegas. 1999 Missed the Indy 500 due to rain. 2001 Went back to the Indy 500 and crashed before I qualified. 2002 went back to IKF karting and won the coveted "Duffy" in the IKF Speedway Karting Grand Nationals 2003-2004 ran in SKUSA Shifter kart events in NM.

2005 – 2006 Owned and operated a Pro Star Mazda team. 2007-2009 Owned and operated an Indy Lights team in the IRL. While the team kept me busy I was able to continue road racing a purpose built Z-06 Vette and set a speed record for a standing mile in my class, in a Ford GT at 210.7 mph. This year I have competed in asphalt modifieds, road racing and instructing during our Cars, Coffee, Chili and Speed events at the Sandia Motorsports Park, where I am the President of the Board of Directors.
